Fourthly, and most importantly, you need to establish whether you’re eligible for Apple Educational Pricing. You can get an Apple student discount if you’re 16 or older and enrolled in a further or higher education institution, such as a university or college. That means that if you’re a parent or guardian of a student in further or higher education (as described in category 1 above), and are buying an Apple device for them to use, you qualify for the discount too. That includes non-teaching jobs, such as those in administration, executives of a PTA (parent-teacher association), and home school teachers. In the USA, visit the US Apple Store for Education, and follow the steps to choose your items. There are some limits on just how many iPads, MacBooks, and iPhones you can buy a year though (see the Terms & Conditions to check the details).

In the UK, Apple seems to be more fearful of people cheating the system, so you have to verify your student or staff status to get a discount. First, visit the UK Apple Store for Education and you’ll be asked to sign up online via the student discount website Unidays. You’ll need to provide the name of your college and details about your course, or similar information if you’re a parent, teacher, lecturer, or education worker. These include the MacBook Pro M2, MacBook Air M1 13in, the 24-inch iMac, the top-of-the-range 12.9in iPad Pro, and the small but perfectly formed Mac Mini (or its bigger, younger brother the Mac Studio Ultra).

Apple Back to School sale: Ending soon in the U.K.

Apple holds a Back to School promotion every year (now known as the Higher Education Offer to avoid confusion because it’s only open to students once they enter higher education, and the institutions and teachers, not school-age children). Apple’s ‘Back to School’ deal runs in various locations around the world during the summer months.

The deal usually ends about a month after the first university semester begins in that country. So if you are based in that part of the world now you will have to wait until June 2024 to take advantage of the special offer. The offer ran in Australia, New Zealand and other Southern Hemisphere locations during January to March 2023. For a long time, Apple gave away a pair of AirPods with qualifying sales as part of its education promotion, but in the summers of 2022 and 2023 (at least in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Europe) Apple didn’t give away AirPods to students.

Students get different gift card denominations depending on the products purchased. This means those taking advantage of the deal get more choice about what they spend their money on, rather than being limited to headphones. Apple also offers gift cards during its Black Friday shopping event.

When Apple kicked off its student deal in Australia, New Zealand, and other Southern Hemisphere locations in January 2023, students in those countries were again able to choose a free pair of AirPods with their qualifying purchase.

The summertime education-focused deal is in addition to these year-long discounts Apple offers to students and education institutions on its Macs and iPads. In the Northern Hemisphere students could get different gift card denominations depending on the products purchased.

When the deal kicked off in Australia and other southern hemisphere locations in early 2023 the offer included free AirPods. In the U.S. you need to visit Apple’s US Education Store, but logging on from your university network may make the process easier. In the U.K. you can visit the UK Education Store, but you will also need to verify your student or staff status with UNiDAYS.

Apple’s Higher Education Offer started on June 5, 2023, and will run until October 2 in the U.S.

In Australia and New Zealand the deal ran between January 18 and March 13, 2023, so similar timings are likely in 2024. The Higher Education deal runs at different times depending on which side of the Earth you are based.

Hence, if you live in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Brazil you can take advantage of Apple’s deal from early January to March. The same deal runs between June and late September/October in North America, and between July and October in Europe and the UK. Apple’s Higher Education Offer will probably start around June 3, 2024 and run until September 30 in the U.S.

In 2023 the deal started on June 5 and ran until October 2 in North America, which was a longer period than traditionally.

In 2022 Apple’s Higher Education Offer (aka Back to School Sale) started on July 14 and ran until Monday, October 20. Apple U.K.’s Back to School Sale in 2020 started on July 9 and lasted until October 29.

The dates in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and South Korea correspond with the new school year there. Apple’s Education pricing isn’t available to parents with kids at school, but a homeschool teacher can qualify.

If you don’t qualify for the education pricing we have a separate guide on where to get the best deals on the iPad. Not every Apple product you can buy in the Education Store is included in the promotion.
