Review Elgato Ring Light

Elgato Ring Light Review vs Key Light and Key Light Air — Stream Tech Reviews by BadIntent

The Elgato Key Light is a large 350 x 250 mm (13.77 x 9.84 in) panel with a brightness of 2800 lumens held up by a desk clamp. The Key Light Air is a smaller 205 x 205 mm (8.07 in x 8.07 in) panel at 1400 lumens held up by a flat base like a lamp.

Customer Reviews: Elgato Ring Light Black 10LAC9901

I have a small/medium business grade home network using Ubiquiti equipment – I went through the hoops of turning things on that elgato recommended, but it is still unreliable – connecting here and there and disconnecting later. Any slight movement on my desk, even just typing starts a camera wobble that lasts long past the time the pole holding it up shakes.

Elgato Ring Light Review

It also has variable colour temperature and soft yet bright, flicker-free lights, making it ideal for streams, video calls, etc. Today, we’re discussing all the important details about the product in our Elgato Ring Light review.

The Ring Light came in a fairly large cardboard box that’s sturdy and durable enough to protect the item inside. Together with it, you’ll see Elgato’s logo and “Ring Light” written on the upper-left corner.

On the lower-left section, you’ll find a list of the key features of the Ring Light. Flipping the box for our Elgato Ring Light review, there are more details featured about the product.

Of course, we examined the product for our Elgato Ring Light review, and it’s indeed sleek and well-made. The included clamp-on desk stand has an adjustable height and a power supply with clip-on plugs. You can screw in your favourite webcam or a general-purpose video camera to the control panel’s top centre.

It’s easy to modify the angle of the light and camera, giving you a perfect shot with its clamp-on stand. After mounting the Ring Light, just plug in its power adapter then switch the product on. Elgato’s Ring Light is made to flatter the skin and remove shadows.

The signature edge-lit LED architecture is now in the perfect circle of this Ring Light. Easily adjust the Ring Light’s brightness using your mouse and set the mood via mobile for a thumbnail shot. With this specific feature, the Ring Light is kinder to your eyes compared to other similar products. The camera ball mount has a 0.635cm screw while its telescopic pole features an adjustable length.

Next in our Elgato Ring Light review, we’ll see if the product is as good as claims. The Elgato Control Centre is the software used for quick configuration of the Ring Light’s variable colour temperature and brightness. Upon downloading and installing the software, click “Add Accessory” to pair the Ring Light via WiFi. We also had tons of fun playing around with the Ring Light in other product-photography and B-roll setups. Elgato continues to produce high-quality products for content creators and streamers.

The company has a line of capture cards, lights, and microphones that makes streaming easier, better, and more enjoyable.

To get your hands on the Elgato Ring Light, you can purchase it from the company’s official website.

A step up for your streaming setup

However, as your streaming game grows you’ll want to take your tech to the next level. As it turns out, the Elgato Ring Light has hit the shelves, looking to provide a new option in this area.

We’ve been testing one out for a couple weeks, and we’re here with the low down on the Elgato Ring Light. One of the things I dislike about streaming is all the setting up that’s required, and I don’t mean when just getting started.

Unlike some ring lights on the market, the Elgato doesn’t come with a floor stand. This suited my setup nicely and gave me extra room under my desk.

Then, it was just a matter of screwing the light to the desk stand, plugging in the power, and presto! Although, I did have a little bit of trouble adjusting the height until I worked out you just need to unwind the neck a tad more.

Download and install the Control Center, click Add Accessory, and then pair your light through WiFi. When it comes to showing yourself on stream, a decent webcam with high quality will do the trick, preferably 720p or higher. Using good lighting however, you can achieve a clear and crisp image without upgrading your camera. Lights don’t just help create an even environment for a real life setting.

In contrast, the Elgato Ring Light makes everything so simple and easy to setup. If you’ve used any Elgato products before, you’ll know they sit at the higher end of the pricing scale. It might be expensive, but I think it’s worth it for someone who is building an audience, either for streaming, YouTube content, or photography.

Elgato Ring Light

I needed a good lamp for SMD soldering under a microscope, unfortunately cheap Chinese LEDs will not suffice. This lamp is very bright but also very easy to adjust, this can be done with the physical buttons or via the app.

Fortunately, the two buttons on the housing come a long way 🙂 The packaging is excellent, nice and clear!

Elgato Ring Light review: Everything is illuminated

While there are a lot of options out there for your standard circular light on a stand, none of them have been designed with livestream broadcasters specifically in mind. Users can screw in their favorite webcam or a more general purpose video camera to the top-center of the control panel.

The ball joint the light attaches to does feel a bit loose, but I have yet to experience any issues with it falling out of place or something like that. If you happen to own an Elgato Stream Deck, you can set up the same custom control functions on there as well or assign them to the macro buttons on some of Corsair’s newer keyboards.

It’s pretty impressive how many options you have to control the settings on the Elgato Ring Light, especially when you consider that most livestreamers are operating every aspect of their broadcast rig. While the screw-on clamp works exceptionally well, even with the fold-up table I use for my living room livestream rig, it was a pain to pull my desk out from the wall and screw it in properly. Sure, I’ll probably never reference it again in my life and one day my next of kin will unceremoniously throw it out after I’m gone, but it’s still much easier to hold onto on the off chance that I did need it again someday.

Review: Light up your WHF or streaming setup with the Elgato Ring Light [Video]

Getting the Elgato Ring Light out of the box, the brand has included everything needed to get up and running. Start with the stand and adjustable pole, which features a padded clamp to attach to a desk.

It screws on to the pole with a ¼/20 thread on top of a tilting mount with a nice secure connection that’s also easy to remove if it’s in the way.

These physical buttons can control the brightness of the Ring Light in 10% increments but can also enter a color temperature mode where the temp can be dialed in for your shooting conditions. So, it can remain plugged in and then turned on from either a computer, mobile device, or manually when you’re ready to shoot. If you are using it in a brightly lit space, there is plenty of room here to crank it up and make sure your face is properly exposed. LEDs are located near the center of the ring and then reflected off of an aluminum backing, through a translucent grad panel and then opal glass. I also had a lot of fun playing around with the Elgato Ring Light in other B-roll and product photography setups.
