Only the large 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max gave them some trouble when held horizontally, although the mounts were rock solid with a 6-inch Pixel 2 XL. And it can tilt a full 90 degrees back or to the sides, which makes it ideal for sloping or vertical surfaces.
The MagicMount Dash’s magnetic attachment performed the best in our testing, holding even a large iPhone XS Max securely everywhere we drove. The latest iOttie models offer the best combination of fast charging, serious stability, and easy adjustability.

How to choose a car phone mount? Berrolia a car phone mount
It seems obvious that using your phone while driving – whether for talking, navigation or playing music – is safer when it’s attached to a decent mount. Taking into account the time you spend in the car and the safety of the driver and the passengers, it is worth considering this subject thoroughly and not to waste money on temporary solutions.
5 safe places to put your smartphone while driving
After moving to a new city and buying a new car to get around in, a close friend of mine found herself needing some sort of GPS navigation to guide her around her new hometown. The answer I received, “I didn’t want have to hold my phone while driving,” got me thinking about the many different in-car mounting solutions for smartphones that would have left my friend’s hands safely and legally free and on the steering wheel. Using a suction cup, this mounting option holds your phone securely in place on your car’s windshield. This is a prime mounting location because it places the phone at eye level, meaning that you won’t have to look far to double check the map in your navigation app.
However, the windshield-mounting position also blocks a bit of forward visibility (which can be critical in vehicles with gun-slit windshields like the Nissan 370Z). This windshield mount features a built-in smartphone charger and a Bluetooth speakerphone, allowing you to instantly tech-up any car with a 12-volt power point. In vehicles with steeply raked windshields, such as the Honda Civic, a glass-mounted phone can end up rather far away from the driver. A dashboard-mount places the handset closer to the driver, shortening the reach required to interact with the phone.
A quick Google search returns tutorials for fashioning DIY mounts for your smartphone out of everything from office supplies to old hard-drive parts to a toilet paper tube and duct tape.
Do you really need to watch a tiny map to respond to a spoken prompt to turn left on Mission Street? It’s also much easier to ignore text messages, tweets, and status updates when you can’t actually see the nagging notifications. Your no-mount mileage may vary depending on everything from your phone’s software to your accent, but going eye-free is a free option that’s easy to try out.
It’s True – A Magnetic Car Mount will NOT damage your Smartphone
From compasses to the incredible inventions of today, MRI body scanners, next-generation electric cars, even maglev floating trains and of course magnetic phone mounts, magnets have made our life more comfortable. As the expert from first4magnets, Matt Newby explained, why you might be concerned about magnets ruining your digital devices stems from an understanding of older electronic devices, such as CRT monitors (Cathode ray tube) and televisions, which were susceptible to magnetic fields. However, he then goes on to explain that, “most modern electronics, like our smartphones, are not going to be adversely affected by small magnets”. Today, you will find a wide variety of different magnets used in many different situations, each one specifically designed for the task required—for example, the refrigerator and microwave oven. The typical type of magnets embedded in a smartphone mount is usually tiny, discrete and not capable of interfering with your device’s signal or data. To make you feel even more confident that magnets will not affect your smartphone, check out this video. The components or apps will not be affected if you don’t use your phone near a strong magnetic field. When it comes to magnetic interference, the speaker, the screen, the GPS module, the inbuilt compass, and the phone’s cell signal are most likely to be affected.
As I previously mentioned, the only time that the speaker would only be affected is if you were making a call otherwise, it has no impact. Back then, CRT monitors would generate a picture by shooting an extremely focused electrons beam at a phosphorous coated glass screen and bend the beam horizontally and vertically using magnetic fields.
However, large obstacles like mountains and buildings can affect weak GPS signals and cause them to error. Within milliseconds, your phone converts the sound of your voice hitting the microphone into a digital signal which is then transmitted as radio waves across the cellular network.
At the other end, the signal is converted back into sound by your friend’s phone and played out through the speaker without any noticeable lag. In brief, your phone signal is transmitted through a massive network of cell towers, and these kinds of radio waves are immune to minor magnetic fields. (though once you reach a specific limit, adding steel thickness won’t improve your shielding much.)
As you can see, apart from the fact that the compass was slightly affected (which we already know is temporary), the smartphone performed perfectly. It has the security and simplicity of magnetic mounting along with the ability to wirelessly fast charge your phone at the same time; automatically aligning itself, all of which I have covered in another article Here are 5 Reasons why you really need a Magnetic Car Mount for your Phone. The testing of the MagEZ Mount Qi proves that careful and clever engineering ensures that the phone is secure and that all functionality works as expected.
Coupled with the PITAKA MagEZ Case and you have the perfect combination, the best-looking case and car mount, the strongest protection and secure connection between the smartphone and the mount, and no ugly stick on metal plates anywhere to be seen.

Best Overall iOttie Easy One Touch Check Latest Price High-quality materials, a washable and reusable suction cup car mount, and an innovative snap-tight phone holder earned the iOttie Easy One Touch our best overall car phone mount pick. A quick cleanup, positioning, and one push on the locking lever fixed the suction cup firmly in place.
If the suction cup doesn’t work out, the vent-type car mount features a beefy wingnut with a threaded brass insert that cinches the jaws onto the vanes with authority. Squeezing the ratcheting side clamps secures the phone in the holder, and pressing a button releases tension for removal. Adjusting the cradle for the right viewing angle was a cinch, and the padded jaws maintained a firm grip without fail. The faux carbon fiber finish left us wishing for a grippier material, but dual mounting options and stable operation make the Anobil Easy Clamp a secure and versatile choice. This setup is far easier to adjust and tighten down than others that put the ball joint cup and threaded ring on the phone holder’s back. The clip mounts seemed like an excellent idea for our application, but none of the rectangular dash shapes were compatible with the built-in curve of the top arm of the clamp.
The tension phone holder worked well once we peeled off a metal logo plate inexplicably stuck onto the silicone pad. Despite our best efforts, we glued on the base in the wrong direction for vertical adjustment and ran into viewing angle issues.
The magnetic phone holders have a soft-touch plastic coating with a threaded ring collar on the back for adjustment. The machined aluminum alloy mount and magnet housing had a black anodized finish, and the steel ball joint allowed for 360-degree unidirectional adjustment.
Alloy construction gave the Coolpow mounts a premium feel, and the steel ball joint offered just the right amount of resistance during adjustment and held fast while driving. Powerful magnets underneath a soft silicone pad grabbed onto the steel plate and held onto the heaviest and largest phones without slipping over rough terrain. The Best Car Phone Mounts for 2021

Best car phone mounts 2021: tested and rated
Finding yourself the best car phone mount can be the difference between making it to your destination in once piece and missing that concert you’ve been looking forward to since the start of the pandemic. That may sounds extreme, but being able to keep your phone, and the navigation app, in view isn’t as easy as you might have thought. The name is a mouthful, but it’ll fit in any car with a CD player and kept an iPhone 12 Pro firmly in place. Not only does it work with pretty much every phone out there, it also comes with built-in cable management to help keep your dash board tidy.
TOPGO Cup Holder Phone Mount For people who don’t want to stick something to their car. Using a cup holder isn’t the most obvious place to keep your phone mount, but it works surprisingly well.

You’ll lose a place for your skinny latte of course, but that’s the price you pay for not being too hot or cold or worrying that your phone will fall at any moment.

We’ll preface this by saying that a lot of people don’t normally rate phone holders with suction cups. Like some of the best mounts, this one holds your phone rock steady when you’re driving around, and putting the device into the holder is a simple one-handed affair. The only potential issue with this holder is the fact you need to affix a disc to the back of your phone — something for the magnets to attach to, basically. The PopSockets PopMount 2 Car Dash holder has a strong suction cup that should do the trick on most dashboards. You’ll also need to take your phone’s unique qualities into account, like if it has MagSafe or you need something that can accommodate a PopSocket or similar stand. Testing begins with making sure the holder itself is able to find a solid grip on whatever part of the car it’s supposed to attach to — windscreen, air vent, etc — and that it will hold a phone in place while driving.
From there, it’s a case of seeing how easily a phone can be inserted and removed, how well any movable parts work, and whether any additional features do their jobs well.
Best Car Phone Mount of 2021
Stable Ease of use Great variety of mounting options Integrated cable management Semi-permanent installation Simple to set up Easy phone installation Small size and inexpensive Low stability score Requires adding magnets to your case
If the magnet isn’t centered on the case, there is a decent chance the phone will spin on bumpy terrain. We should note that we encountered both of these issues with every car vent phone mount with a similar design.
Although the setup is more complicated than other vent mount options, the threaded pinch mechanism offers the most secure interface. Although this makes it much harder to adjust, once you find a viewing angle you like, it is much more secure and stable to touch. But the same bulk adds some protection to prevent your phone from overheating on those cold days when the heater is blasting. Lots of adjustments Stable mount Doesn’t work on all dashboards Large size makes it hard to store
The suction cup provides a lot of versatility for mounting positions on your windshield or dashboard. This mount is one of the most stable models that we tested, keeping your phone steady throughout your drive. We couldn’t get the suction mount to stick to some dashboards, especially cars with pebbled or sloped surfaces. Our reviewers did not love all the excess screws and hinges and buttons and clamps of this mount, but once it is set up and out of the way, feels more manageable to deal with.
With a sticky adhesive bottom, this silicone cradle mounts easily on your dashboard, is unobtrusive, and keeps your phone at a perfect viewing angle with its charging port accessible. Because there are no moving parts, it’s incredibly easy to use with one hand — simply place or remove your phone from its secure rubber groove. The manufacturer states that the sticky rubber bottom can be cleaned and reused, but we are skeptical of how long the adhesive will truly last.
But so far, it has managed to survive hot days sitting in the sun without losing its adhesion, and overall we are quite pleased by the simplicity and performance of this product.
The bottom supports to the cradle are not adjustable, which can be an issue for phones with headphone jacks or off-center charging ports. This means that if you flip the switch in the wrong direction, you have to go all the way back across to achieve the desired tightness.
It also has a spring-loaded mechanism that pinches the vent to increase its stability while keeping installation easy. Once installed, the spring-loaded phone interface is easy to operate with one hand and offers the ability to adjust the viewing angle with a swivel. The biggest one we found is that on rougher roads, the clamp tends to lose its grip on the phone — and suddenly, you’re in a potentially dangerous situation. Small form Inexpensive Easy to install Tends to slip out of the vent Expensive compared to similar designs This is a great option for those with smaller cars and dash space or those who don’t like their vents to be blocked by a phone holder. Its base comes with attachments to help the phone mount fit snugly into different sized cup holders, and its gooseneck allows for endless viewing angles and adjustability.
However, this phone mount is large and bulky, taking up not only valuable cup holder space but also being a bit cumbersome with its long gooseneck, which comes very close to our gear shifter in our Toyota Tacoma. Our last gripe is that the cradle does not attach securely to the gooseneck, making it easy to come unattached while trying to adjust the viewing angle — a definite downside. Chris, along with Jason Peters and Miya Tsudome have been using car phone mounts for over a decade and have tested more than 30 different models throughout the years. We then used each model independently on long drives and road trips to assess durability and identify any quirks that could only be revealed through extended use. Its adhesive back held fast to whatever we stuck it to, and it included the side benefit of being very versatile in its placement location. If you don’t mind a semi-permanent installation, the Scosche MagicMount Pro Universal is our favorite mount that keeps the vent clear. Vent mount options typically keep the phone conveniently close to the driver, but can potentially block airflow. Made to adjust to different sized cup holders, the TOPGO phone mount is stable and easy to use. On smooth roads, the Scosche MagicMount Pro VNT and Maxboost Magnetic were stable enough, but when the terrain got rough, they seemed to be the first to fall off. Because vent attachment models are secured to only a thin sheet of plastic, they are more prone to being impacted by a vehicle’s vibration. This took an average of two minutes to clean the phone for a reliable connection, line up the placement just right, and then finally stick it on. The adhesive is strong enough that you don’t have to fuss with your tactics when taking the phone off — just pull it off in any direction.
The IOttie Dash & Windshield Mount had a small learning curve to figure out how to pinch and remove. Installing your phone is as simple as placing it in the silicone cradle, with no moving parts to adjust to put it in or take it out. The vent-pinching mechanism also adds security to the mount, making it easy to install and uninstall your phone. But because of its simple cradle design, it can accommodate larger phones with ease that may struggle to stay upright on other models.
Best phone mounts and holders for cars
We get it, for many people who don’t have a standalone GPS in their car, a phone is an indispensable navigation aid, not to mention quite useful for hands-free communication when in transit. Given it’s centrality as a travelling companion, it deserves a proper mount to keep positioned within line of sight and out of your mitts. 1. iOttie iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent Mount MSRP: $29.95 Best Prices Today: Like its competition, iOttie’s iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent Mount slides easily onto horizontal and vertical slats—but then it one-ups them with a clamp that squeezes on the rubber clip for a secure hold.
You also get a firm lock when placing a phone on the iTap 2’s magnetic surface, whether you use either of the two metal plates included or any random one that you’re already using.
At its street price of $25, the iOttie iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent Mount is worth the extra cash—especially since it travels well, too. The hinge continued to keep my iPhone held upright without sagging, and the mount stayed firmly clasped to the air vent without falling off due to my phone’s weight. They don’t block your view or muck up your dashboard with adhesive, and they work with cars lacking a CD player. It’s minimalist in design but durable, with a spring-loaded side clip big enough to fit the even large phones like Plus-model iPhones and Galaxy Notes.
The magnet combination is rated to hold today’s largest phones, such as the Galaxy Note 8 or iPhone X, and in my experience with a Pixel XL, the device remained secure while making the screen visible as I drove. The included magnet in the iTap 2 Wireless was strong enough to hold an iPhone XS Max in place without fear of it falling while driving. This phone holder uses an adjustable, solid metal hook that extends to slide through a vent (from 3/8” to 1” deep) and over its horizontal louvers. As a final bonus, the manufacturer offers a lifetime warranty: Send Square Jellyfish a picture of the problem, and the company will ship a replacement, free of charge.

It is simple to install, inexpensive, and – because it holds your phone horizontally – extremely stable. To install the Loncaster, you simply remove the plastic backing and slap it on the dashboard.
There are no clips or magnets, as the phone slides between the grips on the pad and leans against the mount’s backstop. Positive reviews praise the Loncaster for its stability and especially its ability to hold heavier phones in place. “I have a large, bulky, and heavy phone – Galaxy Note9 with an OtterBox case – and a job that requires a ton of local driving. “The OtterBox case that is on my Pixel 2 XL means that it will NOT fit in this car mount.
It scores perfectly by all of our review metrics, and it is one of the cheapest options on our list of the best car phone mounts. The universal adaptor attaches to the back of your phone, allowing you to connect it to your car, bike, motorcycle, or home stand.
While not quite as easy to install as the Loncaster, the Quad Lock also has a simple setup process.
Also included in the box is an adhesive pad for the car mount if you want a more stable and permanent installation (For our tests, the suction alone worked just fine.). A ball and socket design allows you to orient your phone in any angle or direction. The Quad Lock car phone mount has an average Amazon review score of 4.7 out of 5.0 based on over 180 ratings. We recommend the Quad Lock if you want to mount your phone in multiple vehicles or locations – particularly on a bicycle. The Quad Lock system was the most stable of the phone holders we tested (on par with the Loncaster).
While the Quad Lock adapter is quite thin, it will still add a couple millimeters of thickness to your phone. Attaching your phone in front of your car’s air vent can help keep it cool, preventing overheating and preserving battery life.
