A look at three 7 inch Android Tablets » Community
Additionally, the A7 only registers single point touch contact while both the GT and the NC offer true multi-touch capabilities. The NC is the most unique design; the others are basically just black tablets with flush glass across the surface. My primary uses for a tablet are e-book reading, some e-mail, chat and web browsing. The Elocity A7 uses nVidia’s Tegra 2 – 250 system on a chip (SoC) to power it’s operations, the most robust and capable innards of the group.
Using a browser, or maps, or even Angry Birds, the screen’s lack of good multi-touch is evident. The NC has a Texas Instruments OMAP chip (clocked at 800MHz), as well 512MB RAM and 8GB of eMMC storage.
Unlike the other two tablets, there isn’t a single camera on the NC, but our intrepid friends at XDA have gotten the Bluetooth modules working. I installed an over-clockable kernel and the NC was working a lot faster (when needed), and had better battery usage on standby. Again, I installed an overclocked kernel for the Honeycomb side, which made it a little more manageable (but not perfect).
The NC is a great little tablet, with an excellent form factor and best of all, charges via USB micro (like most of your cellphones). It is the only tablet that comes with the Android market already enabled – but that didn’t stop me from rooting it anyways. The GT acts like a large phone, with only a few Samsung apps dedicated to the larger real-estate.
One of these key apps is their email client, which does a pretty good job with Gmail (but isn’t quite there yet). However, once an overclocked kernel and SetCPU were installed, I got great battery life with the correct settings. The GT has a great looking flush mounted screen that is reminiscent of a large cellphone. The ability to play with capable tablets for around $300 dollars can give you a powerful e-reader, as well a web + YouTube consumption device.
As more and more games are on the Android market – a good tablet is a great airplane toy, and can help you do some work while you’re at it. Quirky touchscreen Great e-reader, if $200 is your limit, good clean android fun can still be had!
With the expanded pixel count (just a few less than the iPad), you would think developers might start to create apps for tablets.
Hack your Amazon Fire tablet with Fire Toolbox (Install Google Play, remove Amazon apps, and more)
With list prices starting as low as $50, they’re cheaper than any iPad, and more affordable than most Samsung tablets. They often go on sale for even lower prices – ahead of Black Friday, Amazon is selling Fire tablets with prices starting as low as $35 for a 7 inch tablet, $45 for an 8 inch model, or $75 for a Fire HD 10. Or you can use a third-party utility like Fire Toolbox to modify the look and behavior of Amazon’s tablets. While Amazon’s Android-based Fire OS is probably fine if all you need is a simple device for web surfing, watching videos, and maybe playing some light games.
Developed by xda-developers forum member Datastream33, Fire Toolbox is a Windows application that makes it easy to hack a Fire tablet by doing things like installing the Google Play Store, replacing the default Fire OS home screen and launcher, sideloading apps, removing pre-installed apps, and making other changes to Amazon’s tablets. Folks have been finding ways to modify Fire tablets for years, typically with command line tools. Change your screen density options (to make text and graphics look larger or smaller). Fire Toolbox v28.7 is the most recent version of the utility as of July, 2022, and it includes new and updated features that brings initial upport for Amazon’s 12th-gen Fire 7 tablet running Fire OS 8, bug fixes, a new workaround for installing third-party app launchers (after Amazon made it much harder to do that with a recent software update), improved device detection, and more.
Other changes implemented recently include support for disabling the lock screen, support for disabling Amazon’s “Device Dashboard” icon for folks that aren’t using Amazon’s smart home features,” and improvements to the Fire Toolbox automatic updater. There’s also a tool that lets you remove lock screen ads from some Fire tablets – but when doing so, you’ll see a warning message that makes it clear that the official way to do that is to pay Amazon $15, but maybe you bought a used tablet on eBay and didn’t even know that there were “special offers” on the lock screen? Note that the Fire Toolbox will also frequently recommend you block automatic updates from Amazon in order to ensure that hacks you make using the tool aren’t overwritten by future Fire OS updates. Fortunately, Fire Toolbox developer DataStream 33 found a semi-functional workaround for the launcher app situation about a month later.
Download and install the latest version of Fire Toolbox on a Windows PC. We’ve got your covered with our spec comparison table for Amazon’s current-gen tablets:

Keep in mind that this type of mod requires installing a touchscreen, cramming all the guts into a different case and then figuring out how to tweak the software to work like a true tablet.
