IKEA Continuous Ring Light

Well, aside from providing paper furniture and raw beauty dishes, IKEA seems to have solved the ring light issues as well. The concept however is too good not to be featured in the hopes that IKEA or some other chandelier manufacturer will make it right. This is one of the things I like most about this IKEA Ring Flash hack, it has a smart wiring that allows control over two separate groups of light. The mandatory electricity disclaimer applies here: if you don’t know what you are doing (and probably even if you do), this is powerful stuff, and it can kill you. I get much better lighting with the same bulb from a dinky desk lamp with a shade, which I was intending to replace with something more suitable. The product photo is probably the absolutely ideal situation, as in real life the light does not look so nicely diffused and ambient.

If you want a good idea of how well this lamp will light your room, take a flashlight and point it at the ceiling. Also, you can see the seam where the paper shade was glued together from the outside, so make sure you position your light so that isn’t visible.
