How to connect a Bluetooth device to your Car Audio System
Bluetooth pairing is only required the first time you want to connect a new device to your Car Audio System. The Car Audio Unit and the smartphone will recognise each other and connect automatically from the next time on. Activate Bluetooth on your Car Audio by pressing HOME, and going into the [Settings] menu.

Note: Depending on your model, you might have to look in the “Available devices” section of your Car Audio System and find your smartphone.
Yes, You Can Add Bluetooth to Your Old Car — Here Is How
Well, then it’s likely that your vehicle doesn’t have the latest and advanced automotive technology features that come with today’s models. As a result, old cars’ owners have moved toward upgrading their vehicles with the latest features and equipment to make every riding experience smooth. You can find a myriad of FM transmitters on the market, but you should ensure that you settle for recent models because they have excellent audio quality and strong signals. The sound quality leaves something to be desired but it still brings me joy 😁 pic.twitter.com/MEJF564hCU — Michael Richardson @ NDC Oslo (@AnAccidentalDev) May 1, 2019
Intriguingly, this type of unit doesn’t demand much; you only need to insert it into the stereo slot like you would a regular cassette. Some models of Bluetooth cassette adapters also allow you to make and receive calls wirelessly because they have built-in microphones.
Alternatively, you can get an aftermarket stereo system to help you stream music and enjoy hands-free calling in your old car. You should make this replacement when you want to have a wide range of audio functionality, but you may need to review the basics of adding Bluetooth in your car.
How to Turn Any Old Speakers Into Wireless Streamers
This stuff is costly—connoisseurs consider their audio systems an investment, and with proper care, a quality home stereo can last decades. But with the proliferation of streaming music services, if you haven’t upgraded your system in a while, it may feel behind the times—especially if it’s lacking any wireless connections.
You don’t need to shell out tons of dough to replace that vintage Marantz head or those quality Harman Kardon powered monitors. Bluetooth is great because it’s everywhere—almost every modern smartphone, laptop, and tablet has the wireless communications technology built right in, and you don’t need any special apps to utilize it.
Note that this tiny adapter (like most others) doesn’t have an amplifier, so you’ll need to connect it to an existing audio amp or a set of powered speakers. But no matter which one you choose, these tiny Bluetooth receivers are a great way to get extra utility out of your existing speaker system with very little set-up and very low costs.

Modern Tunes in a Vintage Car: The JBL Charge 3 Bluetooth Speaker
Since the state wants to encourage hands-free cell phone use, it allows drivers to use one earbud, but not two. RetroSound offers a range of dual shaft head units specifically for older vehicles. They have Bluetooth functionality, and they have pods for speakers that can match your kick panels in the footwell.
At a $149.95 list price (significantly cheaper on the street) it’s a lot less expensive than building an entire audio system
Granted, a full car audio system is going to be louder, and more permanent than a speaker like this could be. Mostly, I’m banging around locally and the speaker works perfectly for that, without a huge investment and without any kind of irreversible modification.
JBL sells larger versions of speakers like this that are up to boom-box sized, but the nice thing about the Charge 3 is that it’s small enough to fit inside most automotive consoles so you can stash it out of sight. Yet, the Charge 3 can be the first piece in a much larger, more powerful audio system if you do decide to go that route (More on that later.) With a full charge (via a micro USB cable — thanks for the non-proprietary charger, JBL!)
On a recent drive in the Blazer, I forgot to bring a USB car charger for my phone, but remembered I could just plug a Lightning cable into the Charge 3’s outlet.
It’s pretty incredible that you can get this kind of sound out of a device the size of a small thermos. My intent was to just have it in the car, but it found its way out to the pool the end of this summer where the whole family got to appreciate it and I don’t have to worry about it getting wet.
I haven’t turned on my ’80s-era Sony stereo since it arrived because it’s so easy to use and provides better sound quality than my junky speakers can. For $149.95 (as low as $99.95 on the street) it’s definitely worked for what I wanted it for, though, and it’s completely eliminated the need for expensive stereos and modifications on my vintage truck.

10 Best Bluetooth Car Speakerphones of 2021
These days, most cars come with a built-in Bluetooth speakerphone as part of the vehicle’s entertainment unit. Once you set them up, each time you get in the car, your cell phone will automatically connect to the unit, allowing you to make and receive hands-free calls as well as other things like stream music through your stereo. But, if you are somebody who drives different fleet vehicles each day as part of your employment, or you have an older car without this inbuilt technology, you will benefit from one of these devices. So, to help you out we’ve put together this list of in-depth reviews that will give you a good start in finding the device that is right for you. Rating Image Product Details Best Overall VeoPulse Hands-Free kit Car Speakerphone Easy setup Voice recognition Auto on/off CHECK PRICE Best Value Aigital Bluetooth in Car Speakerphone Compact device Auto on/off Noise reduction CHECK PRICE Premium Choice Jabra Bluetooth Speakerphone Auto on/off Easy setup Voice recognition CHECK PRICE Besign BK06 Bluetooth 5.0 in-Car Speakerphone Dual speakers Latest Bluetooth technology Auto on/off CHECK PRICE Avantree CK11 Hands Free Bluetooth Speakerphone Easy on/off Auto-connect Rotary volume knob CHECK PRICE It works well connected to your phone for calls and doubles as a speaker on which you can stream music, podcasts or audiobooks from your cell while driving. We are particularly impressed by the VeoPulse BPRO2B’s automatic turn-on and off feature that is particularly handy if you plan on using the device in one vehicle. This well-built Bluetooth speakerphone comes with all the usual features and a few premium extras that you won’t typically see on its cheaper cousins.
For music fans this device comes fitted with three speakers, providing a much cleaner sound than you’ll get from any of the other speakerphones we have reviewed. On top of which, should you want to do so, this device will allow you to broadcast your music, calls and other streaming media to your car radio via a built-in FM transmitter.
Naturally, these extra features come at a cost, and at 50% more expensive than our top choice speakerphone this device won’t be for everyone. This helps slightly in overcoming the problem of poor sound quality that is common with speakerphones, but it is still unlikely that you will want to spend too much time listening to music on this device.
We quite like this speakerphone one major drawback we found is that the manufacture has chosen not to include an in-car charger. The Avantree CK11 is a reliable, well-built device that comes with all the standard features that you would expect in a modern Bluetooth speakerphone. The Motorola Sonic Rider SP-005BK is well built, aesthetically pleasing and is from a well-known brand with a good reputation in the communications industry.
Most notably, this speakerphone does not employ the latest version of Bluetooth and won’t work with cell phone voice Apps like Siri and OK Google. As such, it does not use the latest Bluetooth technology and is likely to have a less reliable with your cell phone than newer model speakerphones. Conversely, if you are just looking for a basic device that you can connect your phone to, without having to worry about how to use some of the more modern features, this may be the right choice for you.
You will, however, get a couple of nice bonuses with this device, including an in-car charger and an inbuilt FM transmitter that will allow you to play your calls, music, podcasts and other audio files through your car’s stereo system. Built in FM transmitter Comes with a in-car charger Cons Older model device
The BR05 Hands Free Bluetooth Speakerphone from Nulaxy is one of the more recently released devices in this review.
Though marketed as a hands-free speakerphone, the NETVIP US-T826-LS1 device is essential only a basic Bluetooth speaker that allows you to connect and operate your cell phone. It can support voice control via both Siri and Google Assistant but does not use the latest version Bluetooth software. We have some concerns about the quality of the materials used to build this device as we have seen several reports from users stating that the outer casing around the plug point is very flimsy.
While it is possible to find a device online, that is advertised with all the ‘bells and whistles’, for a very low price you should remember that as with most things, you will get what pay for. Typically, speakerphones listed at bargain prices are of inferior quality and are likely to break or fall apart quite easily. When purchasing a speakerphone, you should be aware that most devices on the market will advertise that they are suitable for playing music, and for listening to podcasts and audiobooks.
While they will all allow you to do this, you should remember that speakerphones only contain tiny speakers, and the sound quality they produce will generally be quite poor.
It is best to remember that the primary job of your speakerphone is to make hands-free calls, not replace your car stereo. We’ve tried to consider a broad cross-section of devices available and while there are many more you could choose from you won’t go wrong with one of our recommended car speakerphones.
