The chat audio is very clear, and the microphone is very responsive (the ability to retract into the headset is great as well). You can of course adjust levels via the console if you want, but I actually thought the default settings were just fine. I still use them daily, and I think I’ve adapted to how they feel since I bought them, so it doesn’t bother me too much anymore.

The Kral completely bypass that with a USB dongle that allows you to ditch the cord and makes for easy plug-and-play on both a computer and the PlayStation 4. You will not get to use the in-built microphone this way, but you’ll still get to listen to music through your computer, portable gaming device, tablet and phone without needing the headset to be charged and powered.
If you have music with a good strong low beat with bass, you’ll enjoy the overall experience more.If you are listening to something that plays up the treble a bit more while pushing into higher pitches, the audio is not quite as rich as other headphones I have used in the past.
This padding in particular fits snug around the ear, perhaps not giving quite as much breathing space as I would have liked, but enough to completely envelop them. It is also worth noting that this foam padding does an excellent job of filtering out exterior noise. Performance Designed Products (PDP) has become well known for their brightly colored controllers and glowing neon headsets, as well as many other gaming related peripherals. It seems like PDP is really stepping up on their build quality with recent products, and the Afterglow Kral headset, like the AG 7, is emblematic of this. While I felt that the AG 7’s published frequency response chart on the box may be accurate, I don’t believe this one is. Despite my disappointment with bass boost and the published frequency chart on the box being inaccurate, I actually found a lot to like with the Afterglow Kral.
Nevertheless, having heard other gaming headsets that sound a lot worse, and seeing that the price on this one is currently significantly less than MSRP, I don’t hesitate in recommending it.
Afterglow Wireless Headset Review
A few days ago, I posted my first impressions of the Afterglow Wireless Headset that I recently bought for the PS4. My initial impressions were very positive, but I needed to have a lot more use from it so that I can post a proper review about it. I can tell you right now that I still have very positive things to say about this headset after giving it a proper run down of its features and different uses (It doesn’t just solely work on the PS4). The first thing you notice when opening the box and pulling out the headset is the size and weight. I usually just do a mic test through the system settings just to make sure it sounds good and is not too loud. I’ve played The Crew, Grand Theft Auto V, and Outlast with these headphones and it sounds like you’re actually in the game.
I have tried it out a couple of times and it does add some stronger bass to it, however, at its highest setting it does sound a little bit distorted so I rarely use it. The nice thing about the PS4 is that with the latest updates, the system doesn’t have to be fully on for the headset to be charged.
The sound is great (minus the Boost Bass at times), they are padded just right and hug the ears perfectly and the headset is easily adjustable. Excellent battery life, plus you are able to use it with your smartphone via the gray cable and also use it wirelessly with your PC.
This headset gets a 4 out of 5 stars from me with really the only negative I have with it is the Bass Boost as I mentioned earlier it can get distorted at times.

Branding aside, there isn’t much difference between the PDP Afterglow Kral and the Karga in terms of design.
Both can glow and highlight the exposed circuitry of the headset, making the Afterglow Kral look futuristic. Unlike the Karga which can feel a bit overbearing at times, there are no similar complaints about the Kral when it comes to comfort.
Even with the glowing LED’s and the microphone’s audio monitoring feature the PDP Afterglow Kral still delivered on its promise of long battery life. Though it still features great positional audio so FPS games are still a breeze and very fun to play with this headset.
If it weren’t for the relatively high price tag, the ASTRO Gaming A40 could easily take our #1 position.

Skullcandy is known for their earbuds and headphones, and tends to focus on stylish design and bassy sound signature. The trapezoid-shaped cans flow smoothly through the headband with a matte black or white finish.
There is also a boom mic attached to the left earcup that cannot be retracted nor adjusted making it a nuisance when not in use. Another thing to note is that for some reason, some audio cable adapters don’t work well with the Skullcandy SLYR so the sound comes out garbled.
