High-capacity portable chargers are becoming more popular because they can provide the longevity of power that people are looking for. This means that high-capacity power banks can last a long time without needing to recharge. Ultimately, this kind of thing only matters if you’re going to charge more than a single iPad with the power bank.
The PowerCore 26800 has two Micro-USB Input ports that can recharge the power bank at 5V/2.0A charging speeds. Like many of Anker’s products and especially their power banks, the design scheme is meant to be as minimalistic and small as possible. That’s what the PowerCore 26800 conveys, as its high charging potential is hidden underneath its low profile appearance.
The power bank isn’t small, but we wouldn’t even rank it as tremendously large either. Walking with the PowerCore isn’t the best idea since you’ll soon be looking for a place to set it down, and that’s natural; That’s because the 26,800mAh power bank is meant to be a destination charger.
All of the charging outputs and input ports are on the side panel of the power bank. The two Micro-USB Inputs are placed vertically, which is an uncommon design but a welcome one because it looks like it was done to make the power bank’s width short. There are 4 LED lights on top of PowerCore to indicate power capacity. The material used for the PowerCore 26800 is lightly varnished plastic, and it may not sound like much, but Anker knows how to build their products.
The side panels have been depressed into the power bank in a great way. This matters because if the side panels were more outwards like the Jackery Bar has, there would be a higher chance of damage. Avoid dropping this power bank from high heights and onto a hard floor because its heavyweight can be its downfall. We’re not sure how Anker managed to do it, but the charging cable used to connect the power bank stayed very strongly throughout each of the 3 ports.
This power bank isn’t for everyone; the PowerCore is meant for those seeking the kind of experience that we’ve outlined in this review. Although it’s not the most reliable if you’re taking it out for a walk, it’ll do wonders if you’re at a destination, have it one spot, and be using it. This power bank isn’t for those looking for a loose charging experience, and that’s why Anker has the PowerCore+ Mini that can offer absolute free portability. Build quality with nearly all of Anker’s products is great; even with being made with plastic, the PowerCore 26800 is a structurally sound-made power bank. Side panels are depressed into the power bank and, as a result, avoid damage.
Since it weighs 1 pound, dropping it can prove fatal if done from high enough and on a hard enough floor. The PowerCore 26800 is a highly objective power bank when you’re searching for reliance on it. It’s near the epitome of high-capacity power banks since it’s able to charge 3 devices simultaneously and with a high capacity to match.
All we have to say is that you should expect limited portability from a power bank like this because it’s not going to provide a loose feeling of living if you plan to carry it around. Anker PowerCore 26800 Power Bank Specs Power Capacity 26,800mAh Each USB-A Output Port 5V/3.0A (15W) Max Output 6A (30W) Micro-USB Input 5V/2.0A (10W) Max Input 4A (20W) Size 7.1 x 3.2 x 0.9 inches Weight 1.1 Pounds Some companies take the easy way out and limit features to their power banks.
It’s not supposed to be portable because of its insanely high capacity, but we find that’s alright considering the power bank can last for days, has fast charging speeds, and two ports for recharging. Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD Review
With USB-C becoming a more prevalent standard for charging laptops, many battery manufacturers are adding the port to portable power banks. It’s a solid, reliable backup battery, though the iMuto Portable Charger X6 Pro earns our Editors’ Choice for delivering a bit more power at a lower price. All of the ports can be found on the top edge, adjacent to a circular power/status button with a set of white LEDs to show charging status. The 30W USB-C port is compatible with the Power Delivery 2.0 standard, which allows for faster charging for both input and output.
With its 26,800mAh of battery capacity, the PowerCore+ kept a MacBook running for 9 hours, 17 minutes when streaming video over Wi-Fi at maximum screen brightness. The Bottom Line The Anker PowerCore+ 268000 PD battery pack carries enough juice and ports to power a USB-C laptop and a couple of your mobile devices at the same time.
Anker PowerCore 26800 Review
This is of the biggest power banks from the PowerCore series in terms of capacity but stands out from other models because of its speed and duality. The PowerCore 26800 It boasts a conversion rate of 91%, which means its true capacity is close to 24400 mAh.
However, having three ports can be a disadvantage given that when the three are in function, each one of them outputs 2.0 A, which is below the required charging speed of several high-capacity devices like iPads (2.4A), and thus it will take a bit longer to recharge them.
On a positive note, due to its sheer capacity, the PowerCore 26800’s battery would take a long time recharging on a single input, so unlike other models like the PowerCore+ 26800 PD, Anker added the now not unusual characteristic of two 5V/2A Micro USB charge ports, for a maximum of 4A input power.
Not that you’ll need to recharge it very often, because it’s one of the few devices that can brag about being able to fully charge a dead iPad and still have plenty of juice left on it for your phone. The Anker PowerCore 26800 is not as convenient as other power banks in the market; however, at 7 x 2 x 3.9 inches and 495g, it’s bulky but not that encumbering to carry around in your bag or even into your pocket. Due to its size, the Anker PowerCore 26800 is not intended to be carried on every-day activities like morning runs. Even though the Anker PowerCore 26800 is not the smallest out there, you can place it in your carry-on bag and you should be able to take it on your next vacation just fine, including aboard commercial flights because it clocks in at 99.16Wh, just shy of the FAA 100Wh restriction limit on lithium-polymer batteries. The PowerCore 26800 contains LG lithium-polymer cells and a premium voltage protection circuit technology, dubbed MultiSafe Protection System by Anker, all of which guarantee safety for your devices against voltage surges, short circuits and overheating.
Pros Long lasting high capacity 3 Output Charging Ports 2 Input Recharging Ports for faster Recharging Compatible with a wide range of brands (includibg Apple devices) Cons Heavy and bulky Risk of over heating
Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD Review
The PowerCore+ 26800 is a solid battery pack but is mainly hurt by its size and weight, making it much more cumbersome to carry around than many of the other products and it doesn’t really have that much when it comes to integrated convenience features. However, you can usually deal with it if you have to, but it is much more suited to being carried in a large jacket pocket or in a laptop bag or backpack. We awarded points if you can charge multiple devices at once or if there were any integrated features, such a flashlight or cables, as well as on the terms of the warranty. This battery has 10 small LEDs that indicate its level of charge but lacks both a built-in wall plug or integrated cables.
Our fourth and final metric deals with how long it takes each of these portable battery packs to recharge, which is responsible for the remaining 10% of the total score. As this is one of the largest batteries, we initially thought the PowerCore+ PD would score quite poorly compared to some of the smaller packs, but it held its own quite well. The PowerCore+ includes a dedicated PD charging wall brick, which allows this massive battery to recharge in a little over four hours — faster than some other products that are less than half the size. Unfortunately, the PowerCore+ PD isn’t really a bargain buy, being one of the most expensive portable power packs we have tested.
It isn’t worth spending the extra money for unless you have some of the larger devices that make use of the PD capabilities of this battery. However, if you do have a larger device, like a newer MacBook, or if you need to charge multiple tablets simultaneously, this battery from Anker is our top recommendation.
