The company has an Android equivalent called the Hipad, a veiled reference to Apple’s iPad, but hasn’t dabbled with this size since 2016, when we reviewed our first Chuwi product, the Hi10 (opens in new tab), which we said back then “The Chuwi Hi10 is a capable tablet which hits a sweet spot delivering the sort of performance that will suit the average Joe without breaking the bank”. It feels and looks solid thanks to a CNC full metal body and what Chuwi coins “anodic sandblast oxidation processes” to give it that smooth finish.
The keyboard is not perfect though; it is thicker than the tablet, doesn’t contain an additional battery and once docked, the tablet-turned-screen has limited folding ability.
Spec Sheet Here are the full specs of the Chuwi Hi10 XR configuration sent to TechRadar Pro for review: CPU: Intel Celeron N4120 Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 600 RAM: 6GB LPDDR4 Screen: 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution Storage: 128GB S0J59X eMMC 5.1 Ports: 2 x USB C, microSD card reader, audio jack Connectivity: Intel Wireless-AC 9461, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1 Weight: 600g Size: 261.8 x 167.3 x 8.8 mm (H x W x D) Battery: 26.6WHr Inside the Hi10 XR is a new favourite of models targeted at the entry level market, the Celeron N4120, which is based on the Gemini Lake architecture, comes with four threads, four cores and 4MB of cache. Perhaps more importantly, despite still using an “old” 14nm manufacturing process, it was launched in 2020, which means that Intel has had years of experience and expertise on that technology when building the N4120.
Paired with it are 6GB of LPDDR4 and 128GB eMMC 5.1 onboard storage (S0J59X), the same as the one used by the Chuwi Larkbox mini PC (opens in new tab). Since you can’t break the laws of nature, the available surface area is simply too small to lay out the keys in an optimal way. Chuwi engineers had to sacrifice the surface area of the keys and the distance between them and ended up with a compromise too far in our opinion.
The gorgeous IPS display has a higher-than-expected resolution and together with a small diagonal, provides one of the highest pixel densities (and therefore sharpness) of any Windows PC or tablets we’ve seen lately at 224dpi. Even out of the box, colours pop out of the screen with good enough contrast to provide a great picture quality thanks partly to the full lamination. Energy sipping components (the CPU, fewer RAM, eMMC and a smaller screen) explains why the Hi10 XR lasted nearly four hours despite having a comparably tiny battery.
For all its faults, one needs to consider that the Hi10 XR is faster, has more system memory and more storage than its Microsoft rival and yet costs far less even with the bundled keyboard and pen. Either get an old second hand keyboard for 10.1-inch tablets from your favourite online auction site or even cheaper, do a print out to scale to appreciate its dimensions.
Chuwi Hi10 Pro review
We take issue with its fingerprint-prone screen and tinny, poorly placed speakers, but in all other respects this is a very decent device for the money. Products can take several weeks to arrive, depending on which shipping option you select, and if they are faulty you’ll have the hassle of returning them at your cost and dealing with customer services in a non-EU country with different legislation.
There are some giveaways of its budget roots, for example some rather thick screen bezels, a display that attracts fingerprints and some unsightly legends on the rear, but on the whole build quality is good. It’s geriatric Android 5.1 Lollipop, customised with the colourful Remix 2.0 UI, but we like the fact it opens the door to a range of third-party software options that are otherwise not available in Windows 10.
The HiPen H2 is an active electronic stylus, which means it won’t work with tablets that don’t support it and must be turned on for the Hi10 Pro to recognise it, though it is quick to charge via the Micro-USB port at one end and easy to click on and off. We like the thin nib, which makes handwriting more accurate and legible, while Chuwi says it’s also good for drawing artwork onscreen if you have the talent. The stylus supports 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, though we were possibly pushing a little too hard since its rubber tracks were visible on the panel when we switched off the display. The keyboard is of greater use to us, a magnetic docking version that is powered by a connection on the tablet, meaning you don’t need to remember to keep it topped up.
The hinge is very sturdy, and does a good job keeping the Hi10 Pro propped up at a comfortable angle in laptop mode, without allowing it to tip back so far that the Chuwi becomes unstable. It really does make tapping out emails and documents much easier than using the onscreen keyboard, and as such we’d highly recommend it as an additional purchase for the Hi10 Pro. In common with all the budget Chinese Windows 10 tablet/laptops we’ve reviewed, the Chuwi Hi10 Pro runs the 1.44GHz Intel Atom X5 (Cherry Trail) Z8300 chip with 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 64GB of flash storage. We were unable to install our GFXBench graphics benchmark on the Hi10 Pro, but would expect it to achieve similar performance to the Chuwi HiBook.

CNET’s Cheapskate scours the Web for great deals on PCs, phones, gadgets and much more. In any case, I’ve been assured repeatedly by company reps that things have improved dramatically. What’s more, the product will be shipping from a U.S. warehouse, not China, so delivery should happen within days, not weeks — or even months.
Chuwi compares this model to some of the latest 2-in-1 tablets from Huawei, Lenovo and Samsung. The Hi12 features an Intel Cherry Trail Z8300 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of solid-state storage and a 2,160-by-1,440-pixel IPS display. Normally those things are expensive, but for a limited time, and while supplies last, you can get the Amcrest IP2M-841 ProHD 1080P Wi-Fi IP security camera for $84.99 shipped. It features remote pan/tilt, IR LED night vision, motion alerts and, perhaps best of all, 1080p video at 30 frames per second.
Chuwi Hi12 Review (Updated 2021)
Microsoft’s Surface achieved great success and since then most big name companies have released their “clones” of this devices. Although Chuwi Hi 12 is not really a Surface clone, in true meaning of the word, it is one of the cheapest tablets of this kind on the market and arguably the best within the price range. The biggest flaw of this model lies in the fact that the display is heavier than the keyboard, which cannot be firmly attached and this is what makes typing on it feel uncomfortable too. Additionally, there are two more USB ports in the keyboard itself, which is a great feature and certainly a rarity when it comes to tablets. Chuwi Hi12 Specifications Operating System: Windows 10 and Android 5.1 Screen Size: 12 inches Screen Resolution: 2160 x 1440 pixels Pixels Per Inch: 216.33 Processor model: Intel Atom Z8300 Quad Core RAM: 4 GB Disk Space: 64 GB Cam Front: 2.0 MP Cam Back: 5.0 MP Battery Life: 7-9 hours Battery capacity (mAh): 11000 mAh Weight in lbs: 1.87 Weight in kg: 0.852 If you’re looking for a decent tablet to serve as a second device, so that you can perhaps watch movies, write emails, skype or casually surf the internet, you will not be disappointed. Heavy games are pretty much unplayable, but those that don’t require high-end performance run just fine. The device runs smoothly and without lag, switches between applications without any issues and operates quite fast.
The sound that they produce is clear and crisp, better than on most tablets in this price range and definitely better than those of other Chinese devices. If you don’t do much except browsing the web, answering emails and watching YouTube videos, you can expect the battery to last up to 8-9 hours. Tablets with large screens, such as this one, usually have short battery life, especially the cheaper models like Chuwi, but that is definitely not the case with this device. The downside is the heavy keyboard, but a large number of ports is what makes it convenient and practical.
A kickstand would have made this product a lot better, but it is what it is and it is, with all of its flaws, a good quality tablet computer.
This Android-Windows hybrid from CHUWI is actually pretty good
If you buy through a link on this site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. Its tablets are sold, for the most part, overseas; however, you can purchase them in the United States and elsewhere through select retailers. The first time I became familiar with the company was earlier this year when they reached out about a new product launching, but now I’m getting direct experience with a CHUWI tablet in the form of the Hi12. Chamfered edges and small visible screws give the Hi12 an modest industrial look. On the bottom, CHUWI put magnetic pins and a two slots for the keyboard attachment to work with. Speaking of the keyboard, it’s impressive because you don’t usually get a decent experience from a compact size. My sole complaint about the full-size keyboard is the odd sticky feeling each plastic key give, but that’s easy to get over. Then you can quickly switch over to Windows when you want a complete experience whether that’s for web browsing, productivity, or gaming.
It’s annoying because Marshmallow and now Nougat are way different from Lollipop, and I doubt CHUWI is going to roll out a software update for the Android side.
