Not only can you stream your tunes from a phone, tablet or computer, but some Bluetooth speakers have built-in microphones so you can use them as a speakerphone for calls or meetings. Luckily, wireless Bluetooth speakers have improved with time, and now offer better sound, longer battery life, more reliable connectivity and increased durability, particularly when it comes to water resistance. We continue to review mini Bluetooth speakers at a steady clip here at CNET, so we update this list fairly frequently.
This buyer’s guide offers a look at our current favorites, with a focus on small and lightweight models that are well suited for travel and still have excellent sound output. David Carnoy/CNET When it launched, Bose made some bold claims about its new SoundLink Flex Bluetooth speaker, particularly its bass performance. Available in three colors — black, white smoke and stone blue (pictured) — the speaker is IP67 dust- and waterproof, and rated for 12 hours of battery life at moderate volume levels.
It’s also equipped with Bose’s PositionIQ technology to automatically detect the speaker’s orientation and deliver optimized sound based on whether it’s upright, hanging or flat on its back. The Flex also floats and Bose says it can survive drops and bumps, with a soft silicone back and powder-coated steel grille that “won’t peel or flake and is resistant to corrosion and UV light.” Aside from its great design, Bose’s SoundLink Micro stood out because it was able to deliver more bass than every Bluetooth speaker in its size class, and it also managed to have limited distortion at higher volumes. It’s IP67 dust-proof and water-resistant (it can be fully submerged in shallow water for a short time) and has up to eight hours of battery life at moderate volume levels with USB-C charging. Sarah Tew/CNET Although a little pricey, Bose SoundLink Micro sounds remarkably decent for its tiny size, delivering more bass than other pocketable speakers. David Carnoy/CNET E D I T O R S ’ C H O I C E Anker’s Soundcore Motion Plus came out in 2019 and managed to slip beneath my radar, which is a shame because it’s arguably one of the best-sounding speakers under $110, if not the best (it sometimes costs slightly more but the black model usually is around $105).
A little larger than many mini Bluetooth speakers, it’s still compact and manages to sound quite a bit fuller than much of the competition in this price range, with bigger bass, more volume and better clarity. It’s also a sleeker looking Bluetooth speaker that’s available in five different color options: black, taupe, coral red, light blue and olive green. Equipped with two new full-range drivers and passive bass radiator, it delivers 12 hours of battery life at moderate volume levels and is water-, dust-, rust- and shock-proof with an IP67 rating. But for the fourth-gen Clip 4, JBL has moved to a more oval shape, bulked up the speaker slightly and added USB-C charging.
Sarah Tew/CNET The Tribit MaxSound Plus is about 30% bigger than its sibling XSound Go and costs about $25 more, but it performs substantially better and is one of the best sounding speakers in its size and price class. It’s also worth noting that the A1 has multipoint Bluetooth pairing so you can connect this to your PC and smartphone at the same time and easily switch back and forth between the two if a call comes in on your phone.
David Carnoy/CNET I’ve long been a fan of Sony’s smallest Bluetooth speaker, which has been modestly upgraded for 2021 with some design refinements and slightly improved sound. This model is both dust- and waterproof with an IP67 certification and is rated for 16 hours of battery life at moderate volume levels (it has USB-C charging, while the older XB12 didn’t). David Carnoy/CNET We liked Ultimate Ears’ original Wonderboom Bluetooth speaker, which sounded good for its compact size and was also waterproof. It also has 30% better battery life — up to 13 hours at moderate volume levels, according to Ultimate Ears — and you can link two together to create a stereo sound pairing by simply pressing a button on each speaker.
The 6 Best Bluetooth Speakers For Bass – Fall 2021 Reviews
With its Bass Boost feature set to ‘1’, it has a boomy sound profile to help you feel the thump and punch in your music. It has an impressive dynamics performance that can make it very loud and great for parties, although there are slight compression artifacts at max volume.
Best Bluetooth speakers 2021: portable speakers for every budget
It’s nothing to do with shortage of options – every online manufacturer from Apple to Ultimate Ears is vying for a bite of the Bluetooth cherry and by association, your hard-earned cash. We’ve done the heavy lifting and rounded-up our pick of the best Bluetooth speakers across all shapes, sizes and prices to ensure you discover a product you’ll be over the moon with. It may sound obvious, but the number one piece of advice we always offer when looking for a Bluetooth speaker is to avoid opting for the first model that catches your eye. The JBL Xtreme 3 gained five stars across the board during our rigorous in-house testing, never appearing out of its depth no matter how complicated the musical arrangement. It’s at the pricey end of the market, yes, but it’s a stone cold stunner, delivering excellent clarity, impressive bass weight and good looks in spades – so much so that we recently handed it a What Hi-Fi? If all you want is a portable Bluetooth speaker that sounds as good as you can currently buy for around £100 ($100, AU$119), you’ll be hard-pressed to better the fantastic Flip 5.
Assuming you don’t mind the lack of an aux-in port or inbuilt microphone (as seen in the Flip 4), you’ll almost certainly be wowed by this speaker’s sonic chops. Tribit Stormbox Micro A fun and bubbly Bluetooth speaker that’s serious when it comes to sound Specifications Dimensions: HxWxD (cm): 9.8 x 9.8 x 3.5cm Power: 9W Features: water/dustproof, Bluetooth 5.0, stereo-pairing mode Connections: 3.5 mm stereo TODAY’S BEST DEALS Prime £42.99 View at Amazon Reasons to buy + Mature, musical sound + Surprisingly weighty bass + USB-C charger Reasons to avoid – Short battery life
It’s hard to imagine a home decor, backpack or personal taste that the Tribit Audio Stormbox Micro couldn’t merge in with happily. Although a speaker of such dimensions is obviously limited in terms of bass weight, it does remarkably well; close your eyes while listening and you’ll picture a bigger product.
Take note, Ultimate Ears: a little-known brand called Tribit Audio just produced a budget belter of a Bluetooth speaker. JBL Charge 5 Updated specs and subtle tweaks for JBL’s fifth-generation Charge Specifications Dimensions: HxWxD (cm): 22 x 9.6 x 9.4cm Power: 30W + 10W tweeter Features: waterproof, Bluetooth v5.1, power bank, voice assistant integration Connections: USB-C, USB-A TODAY’S BEST DEALS Prime £159 View at Amazon £159 View at Richer Sounds £159.99 View at argos.co.uk Reasons to buy + Clearer and more detailed sound + Wider soundstage + Updated dustproofing Reasons to avoid – Nothing at this level
Its predecessor carried an IPX7 rating, meaning it could handle being submerged in water to a depth of 1.5m, but the IP67-rated Charge 5 builds on that durability by also being fully dustproof. Throw in its classy, well made design, easy to use operation and the bonus of Alexa, and you’re looking at a Bluetooth speaker sequel that has very much been worth the wait. JBL Go 3 JBL’s newest soap-sized speaker sounds good – but the finish and battery life won’t wash with today’s class leaders Specifications Dimensions: HxWxD (cm): 8.8 x 7.5 x 4.1 Power: 4W Features: Water/dustproof IP67, Bluetooth 5.1 Connections: USB-C TODAY’S BEST DEALS £29 View at Richer Sounds £29.99 View at O2 Mobiles Prime £34.99 View at Amazon Reasons to buy + Sensible treble + Fuller bass + More volume Reasons to avoid – Poor battery life – Not very durable finish Specifications Dimensions: HxWxD (cm): 22 x 9.5 x 9.3 Power: 30W Features: waterproof, Bluetooth v4.2, power bank, voice assistant integration Connections: 3.5 mm stereo TODAY’S BEST DEALS Check Amazon 148 Amazon customer reviews ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Reasons to buy + Rugged and water resistant + USB port for charging + Great sound quality Reasons to avoid – Perhaps too subtle for some
Not only is this one of best-sounding Bluetooth speakers around at this end of the market, it serves up a whopping 20 hours of playback from a single charge and, thanks to the arrival of its newest sibling, you’ll find this slightly older model discounted across several retailers. Ultimate Ears has really made a splash in the Bluetooth speaker market with a number of colourful, fun-sounding and portable models. When pressed, it restricts the bass frequencies, allowing the UE to play louder through the midrange, which in turn makes the sound easier to hear when the unit is used outdoors. We’re happy to report that it’s still the case today – if £500 ($500) is your maximum budget, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a speaker that comes close to the Audio Pro C10 MkII. We miss the leather handle and fun, slightly rock’n’roll aesthetic and sonic presentation of the original, but we can’t argue with three options for multi-room streaming (AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast and Audio Pro’s own slick and functional app) or the levelled-up grippy bass and improved hi-fidelity performance.
The Audio Pro Addon C3 isn’t just the best Bluetooth speaker at this price, it’s a stylish, wi-fi connected, multi-room capable centrepiece – plus it’s a What Hi-Fi? It has an fantastic sense of refinement for such a small speaker, not to mention a rear-firing bass reflex port that delivers plenty of low-end grunt. This model won’t charge your smartphone but it does feature an ethernet port, giving you the option to hardwire it to your home network. The C3 supports streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz and Apple Music, and while there’s no built-in voice assistant, you can control the speaker via the Alexa app. Remove whatever colour grille you’ve gone for and you’ll be rewarded with upgraded and optimised midrange and bass drive units, all powered by a total of 300W of amplification. The rugged, IPX7 waterproof exterior, 15 hour battery life and ability to charge your phone from its USB port mean it’s a great option for the beach – and you’ll probably find deals on this model thanks to the arrival of the latest iteration, the Xtreme 3 (above). And it won’t let you talk to Alexa or Google Assistant, just set a button to activate them in the manner of an earphone’s in-line remote. You get Bluetooth, wi-fi and Alexa smart assistant voice controls, meaning you can turn up the volume or play songs through Amazon Music Unlimited without lifting a finger. The 360-degree sound and bass output is far better than one might expect for this kind of money; throw in Alexa smarts and you have a fun, energetic speaker that offers plenty of bang for your buck.
Yes, it is intended to get us all invested in its virtual assistant, Alexa, but where much of the Alexa-enabled kit out there is audio based and concentrated on the Bluetooth speaker market in particular, the Echo Show 5 embraces both sound and video in its abilities to communicate. The best Bluetooth speakers 2021: the top portable speakers for any budget
The best Bluetooth speakers in 2021 all tick three key boxes: they’re portable, durable and they offer superb audio quality in all kinds of environments. Last year, the Sonos Move was discounted by $100 / £100, and we saw lots of excellent deals on models like the JBL Flip 5 and the UE Boom 3 – so it’s well worth shopping the sales.
Save $50 – This Bluetooth speaker boasts excellent sound, a lovely water resistant shell and a powerful rubberised finish – and it’s at a great price for Black Friday.
Save $20 – This cute Bluetooth speaker comes with an IPX7 water resistance rating, so you can take it in the great outdoors without a worry.
Save £6 – This tiny Bluetooth speaker sports Micro SD support and AUX capability to provide endless audio options, a 15-hour battery life, and a 66ft wireless range. Well, portable speakers that stream music from your devices via Bluetooth are a great idea if you want high quality audio at home.
They’re also a solid option if you like to listen to music outside, whether that’s while you’re entertaining outdoors or working out, as well as if you like to be able to take a speaker to social events – like a party in your local park or down at the beach. Many of the best portable speakers you can buy today are multi-functional and may also feature voice assistant integration alongside audio playback.
This device can seamlessly switch from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth, integrate into a Sonos system, and it comes with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant onboard. The Sonos Roam is our pick for the best Bluetooth speaker on the planet, with a powerful sound, rugged design, excellent connectivity features, and smart home control. A bass-heavy audio performance makes it ideal for use outdoors, while a clever Automatic Switching feature means it’s easily used indoors, too – though audiophiles may dislike the overwhelming low frequencies and rhythmic handling. Its slick design means the Sonos Roam won’t look out of place in your home, while a rugged, waterproof and dustproof build and a decent battery life make it ideal for listening to music outdoors.

This is a speaker that can get loud and not distort at higher volumes; be light enough to carry on a camping trip but remain durable enough to tumble in a bag unprotected.
JBL’s Flip 5 is a simple soul with Bluetooth-only playback and modest features, but if you desire a rugged, great-sounding portable speaker and can sacrifice voice control or hands-free call functionality, you won’t be disappointed.

[Update: Don’t miss our JBL Boombox 2 review – we were mightily impressed by this portable speaker’s IPX7 waterproof rating, long battery life, and distortion-free sound.] It doesn’t quite meet the sonic dexterity of the Sonos Move, or the value for money of the UE Boom 3 and JBL Charge 4 – but if you love that Bose sound and build quality, this is the portable speaker for you. Some portable speakers are built with durability in mind, and will feature rubberized builds to prevent damage from drops and lightweight designs to make them easy to carry around. Of course, you can absolutely use your new portable Bluetooth speaker solely inside your home – and that means you can choose from a wider range of designs that will look great with your decor.
Sonos Bluetooth speakers are great if you want to bridge the gap between indoors and outdoors, with the ability to form part of a wider multi-room system – and you can be sure that they’ll sound fantastic, too. If waterproofing is a priority then look out for models from Ultimate Ears, which combine fun, colorful designs with rugged builds – many of which can withstand a dip in the pool.
Consider high-end audio brands such as Bose and Bang & Olufsen if you want a combination of stylish design and great sound – but be prepared for relatively high prices. If you want to save money then Urbanista, Tribit, and Anker offer brilliant speakers that won’t break the bank.
9 Best Mini Bluetooth Speakers for 2021
We spent the past couple weeks investigating the product category further to discover the best mini speakers made by leading brands like Anker, Bose, JBL, and Sony, among others. However, you should be mindful that mini Bluetooth speakers typically pack less audio drivers than their larger siblings in order to remain compact. All mini Bluetooth speakers have a take-anywhere design, so we focused our analysis on the products’ ability to survive the elements.
With the above in mind, find your favorite mini Bluetooth speaker among these top-rated options now, all priced below $100.
20 Best Mini Bluetooth Speakers In 2021
If you are not happy with your phone’s speaker, and you need something stronger but still portable and wireless, you’ve come to the right place. This article is designed to help you understand all the important features and find the best mini Bluetooth speaker for you.
During the short introduction we will first try to elaborate on the most important features you should pay attention to when buying a mini Bluetooth speaker, and after that short intro, we are going to present to you our list of 20 best mini Bluetooth speakers on the market in 2021. Also, all of them can be easily carried around in hand and can fit your bag or your backpack without any problem.
All these mini Bluetooth speakers are small for a reason, so you could take them with you wherever you go and use them whenever you want (indoors or outdoors), and that’s why any waterproof and/or dustproof rating is considered an advantage. These are all small speakers with not so powerful drivers, so they don’t need big batteries in order to last long.
Average battery lasting time for these mini speakers is approximately 6-8 hours. Of course, there are some speakers with much larger batteries, and we have managed to find some of those, but you should be aware that they usually cost more.
Bluetooth version also determines the data transfer rates and power consumption, and the same rule applies here – newer Bluetooth versions offer faster data transfer and smaller power consumption (and that’s why the battery lasts longer).
Now that you know all the important things, we can present to you our list of 20 best mini Bluetooth speakers in 2021.
Like many other Chinese companies, Meidong makes cheap and relatively decent quality products. It is not an extraordinary mini speaker in any way, but it offers more than decent performance for the price you pay.
The whole speaker, except for the bottom and top, is wrapped in protective aluminum grille. The speaker is really small and lightweight and it can easily fit your hand or your bag.
The speaker is well-built – all the drivers are protected with a sturdy aluminum mesh, and the bottom and top are covered with some rubber-like material.
The speaker is compatible with Android smartphones and iPhones, various tablets, Echo Dot, and PCs.
Meidong QQChocolate has pretty large Li-Ion battery (we didn’t manage to find the capacity). If you crank the volume up to the maximum, battery will last 4 hours max.
Meidong QQChocolate has this nice additional feature, so if you like answering calls with your speaker, you can easily do it with this one. Using speakerphone is simple, although the mic is not perfect and picks up certain amount of environmental noise.
This speaker offers pretty decent sound quality and surprising loudness for its size. You won’t get perfectly clear sound with strong bass and great audio separation because the drivers are too close to each other, but it’s satisfying.
Mids are articulate and highs are pretty clean, but bass lacks some depth. We suspect that Cowin audio equipment and Mighty Rock speakers are made by the same company, although we don’t have some rock-solid evidence.
Mighty Rock 6110 comes in a simple packaging along with charging cord, auxiliary cable with 3.5mm jacks on both ends, user guide, and 18-month warranty. MR 6110 is available only in black color which contributes a lot to the elegance vibe. There were no complaints regarding durability in the past, and based on our experience and impressions, construction quality is one of the good things about this speaker.
Pairing works like a charm and it is very simple, connection is stable with standard Bluetooth range of 30ft.
Thanks to its 2 drivers, Mighty Rock produces decent sound quality, with nice audio separation between left and right speaker. Sub-bass is almost nonexistent, but you can’t get great bass response from such a small speaker, and you shouldn’t be expecting anything like that. Mighty Rock 6110 doesn’t have IPX rating which means it is not waterproof nor weatherproof in any way. Anker Technology is one of the youngest audio equipment companies on the market. Soundcore2 comes in a nice white and blue box, and along with the speaker, you will get only charging cord, user guide, and 18-month warranty.
The front panel is completely covered with black protective aluminum grille, and the rest of the speaker is made of hard plastic with rubber finish. Soundcore 2 features two 1.5 inches large drivers (with combined power of 12W) and one passive radiator. The speaker is simple, kind of boxy and minimalistic, without too many details, but still stylish and elegant.
Big ANKER logos on the aluminum mesh and at the back are kind of tacky, but the general impression regarding design is still very good. Still, that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want with it, and if you accidentally drop it into the water, it will probably get damaged. The speaker features Bluetooth 4.2 version with Low Energy Protocol and extended range. Speaker is compatible with various devices, and we haven’t experienced any problems regarding compatibility – Soundcore2 can be paired with Android phones, iPhones, iPads, Echo Dot, and bunch of other Bluetooth-enabled devices. Thanks to its large battery and Bluetooth 4.2 with Low Energy Protocol, Soundcore2 can offer you up to 24 hours of playtime (at 50% volume). The mic is far from perfect, it won’t work well if you are outside (especially in noisy environment), but if you are inside your house or in your office it can be quite useful. There is no need to present Bose to you, this company is already famous enough, and there are a long history and tradition standing behind this name. Inside small and stylish box (which is not a surprise since Bose usually pays attention to the presentation) you will find your speaker, charging cord, AC adapter, charging cradle (which you can use when you are at your home, but you don’t really have to – it’s optional), user guide, and 1-year warranty.
The front and rear panel of the speaker are covered with sturdy aluminum grille which protects the drivers, and rest of the speaker is made of hard industrial plastic combined with rubber details. Soundlink 2 mini Bluetooth speaker looks and feels really sturdy and durable, although all the pieces of advice from the Bose manual don’t suggest that.
Bose doesn’t provide the info on Bluetooth version that was used, but claims that the Bluetooth range is 30ft, and based on our experience that’s true (although you should try to stay inside 15-20ft range, just in case), Pairing is simple, and you can pair two devices at the same time with the speaker. Compatibility is not an issue with this speaker – you can connect it to practically any Bluetooth-enabled device (Android phones, iPhones, iPads, PCs, Echo Dot, etc.
The speakerphone is nice additional feature, and the built-in mic works better than on previously mentioned cheaper speakers, but it’s still not perfect. Lack of NFC wouldn’t be considered a downside if this was some cheap speaker, but since it’s Bose, and since it is pricey high-end product, the only normal thing is to expect everything. The first one was UE BOOM (the original version) which almost instantly became one of the most wanted speakers. This upgraded version looks practically the same as UE BOOM (same dimensions and design) but brings some improvements regarding sound quality and loudness, durability and ruggedness, and connectivity.
Along with the speaker, you will get charging cord, AC wall plug, user guide, and 2-year warranty. The whole speaker is protected with some nylon-like material (UE calls it acoustic skin with plasma coating), and at the back, there is narrow rubbery spine. At the bottom, you will find D-RING covering the tripod mount (you can use it to mount your speaker on bunch of things), and small rubber flap which protects 3.5mm port and charging (micro USB) port. This is small, nicely shaped speaker that you can easily bring with you wherever you go – it can fit your hand, your bag, your backpack. In terms of construction quality, durability, and ruggedness, this is probably the best speaker on the market – it is practically indestructible. It has IPX7 waterproof rating, so it can endure full immersion into the water of up to 1m depth for 30 minutes.
Unlike its cousin MEGABOOM 2, this speaker doesn’t float, so if you accidentally drop it while you are in the pool, it will go straight to the bottom. UE claims that this upgraded version has 100ft Bluetooth range, which is not completely true.
First, you can pair two (DOUBLE UP function) UE BOOM speakers and get more sound. You also have the option to set the ALARM and choose the source device from which the music will be streamed at certain time.
BOOM 2 can be integrated with Siri, Google Now, or Alexa, so you can use voice controls to play music, make calls, and do many other things. Unlike many small Bluetooth speakers, this one offers strong and punchy bass.
+ ad – buttons are kind of oversized and don’t feel natural. If you have enough money, and you need something incredibly durable and rugged or you really like the design, then there is nothing stopping you from buying it, but if you are having some doubts, and you are trying to decide between some JBL speaker (they are usually slightly cheaper and have similar features) and UE BOOM 2, then JBL is probably better option, just because of the price.
JBL is along with Bose and UE, the most popular brand on the market, at least when Bluetooth speakers are concerned. Inside the packaging, there are speaker, charging cord, AC wall plug, user guide, and 2-year warranty, so it’s pretty much the same content like with UE BOOM 2. You won’t get AUX cable or carrying case, and you will have to buy them separately. Charge 3 is shielded with rubber-like fabric, which protects the drivers and makes the speaker waterproof. We won’t be reviewing anything larger than this one and you can consider this our limit in terms of size and weight. Unlike some other cylindrical speakers, this one doesn’t offer 360-experience since all the drivers are oriented towards the front panel.
The speaker is available in six different colors – black, blue, camouflage, gray, red, and teal. Just like previous UE BOOM 2, this is durable and really well-built speaker, it is compact and looks and feels like it can endure all the rigors of everyday use. One more interesting thing is that this speaker floats, so if you drop it into the pool, it won’t go straight to the bottom, which is really nice additional feature. This speaker has large Lithium-Ion Polymer battery with rated capacity of 6,000mAh. Charge 3 has built-in mic and speakerphone function which works just fine. It produces strong and punchy bass, full mids, and crisp clean highs.
The only negative thing is that the drivers are faced forward, so you won’t get 360-sound, and there is no equal distribution of sound, so if you want something with 360-sound, UE BOOM 2 is probably better option. This speaker doesn’t really have some big flaws and the biggest downside is that there is no NFC function, which is something that you expect for this price.
Lack of 360-sound is not really an issue, but you should be aware that although it’s shaped like a cylinder which kind of suggests that you will get 360-sound, there will be no 360-experience because both drivers are faced forward.
Pill+ comes in really nice and stylish packaging (which is not a surprise considering how much effort Beats invests in presentation), and together with the speaker, you will get charging cord (USB-A to lightning port), AC wall plug, user guide, and 1-year warranty. The front and rear panel are covered with sturdy aluminum grille which protects the drivers. The top, bottom, and both sides are made of hard plastic with rubber finish.
The rubber finish gives a good grip, so it’s practically impossible to slip out of your hand. We didn’t find out which version of Bluetooth was used, but based on our experience, we can say that the connection is pretty stable as long you are within 30ft range. Beats pill+ has relatively large Li-Ion battery which offers up to 12 hours of playtime at 50% volume.
This situation is no different, although we think that JBL Charge 3 has larger battery and can offer more juice for your phone.
The only thing you can do with this application is to connect two speakers, and that’s why we decided not to mention the app separately. It really has strong punchy bass (unfortunately it lacks some depth, but you can’t expect everything from such a small speaker), mids are articulate (but nothing more than that, they are not rich enough), and highs are not clean enough. Beats Pill+, unlike other pricier speakers on this list, doesn’t have IPX rating, which means that it’s not waterproof at all, and you should keep it away from the water. Although previous versions of Beats Pill had this additional feature, this one doesn’t, and we think, they should’ve kept it.
Beats definitely decided to orient production towards Apple users, and we think that’s not a great business decision.
Beats Pill+ probably costs a little bit too much than it should, especially if you take into consideration all the features and downsides, and compare it to other similar speakers. Best Mini Bluetooth Shower Speaker – Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM There is a lot of reasons why you should buy this speaker and the most important are probably not sound-related, but you should keep reading, and find out all the good and bad things about it.
WONDERBOOM comes in a nice little stylish box along with charging cord, user guide, and 2-year warranty. There is also Ultimate Ears logo, which is, in fact, multifunction button which can be used to play/pause songs, skip tracks, and connect two WONDERBOOM speakers. The speaker has two 40mm drivers, and two passive bass radiators (46.1x65mm), and they are arranged in a way which enables 360-sound with equal sound distribution in all direction. It has recognizable cylindrical shape and it is obtainable in 6 colors – cashmere pink, fireball red, lilac, phantom black, subzero blue, and stone gray. This is one of the biggest advantages of this speaker, and if something is really impressive about WONDERBOOM it’s the build quality. WONDERBOOM offers extended range compared to other mini Bluetooth speakers.
The manufacturer claims that Bluetooth range is 100ft, but it’s really more like half of that in reality, especially if there are some obstacles. The most annoying thing is incredibly loud sound you can hear when you power on or off the speaker, and during the process of pairing.
JBL GO comes in a simple and kind of cheap packaging, and along with the speaker you will get only small charging cord, user guide, and 1-year warranty, and no additional accessories.
Rubber finish and sturdy aluminum mesh give the impression that it is really durable.
We haven’t experienced any compatibility issues, so it is probably safe to say that you can use it with any Bluetooth-enabled device. You won’t get strong bass, sub-bass practically doesn’t exist, mids are articulate, while the highs are kind of muffled, so for its size it is satisfying.
The built-in mic is always nice additional feature, and we usually consider it an advantage, but only when it works fine. Well, we are maybe being too harsh, and maybe device in this price range doesn’t have to be equipped with NFC, but you still have to be aware of what you are buying. That doesn’t mean that you can’t use it in the shower – you absolutely can, but you are not supposed to throw it in the pool or swim with it because it won’t survive submersion. SB510 comes in a simple plastic packaging, and besides the speaker, there are charging cord, user guide, and 1-year warranty. On the side of the speaker, there is a small rubber flap which protects the charging port. SB510 features only one small driver with output power of 3W, which is not too much, so you shouldn’t be expecting some amazing performance.
The speaker can withstand showering, but it can’t be immersed in water, so be careful if you decide to bring it with you to the pool or to the beach. We haven’t experienced any problems regarding durability – the speaker works fine with both Android phones and iPhones.
SB510 doesn’t provide strong and punchy bass or crisp-clean highs, but it can still be useful. Although it is splash-proof, this speaker is not shockproof, which is kind of a downer, since there is possibility of falling off the wall.
This is why we think the speaker is not rugged and durable enough, and you should always pay attention to the suction cup, and check if it is strong. This speaker has a built-in mic, and you can answer calls with a small handsfree button, but it doesn’t really work – you can hear clearly the other person, but the person you are talking to won’t hear you.
Even when you remove the shower from the equation, your voice is completely distorted and the person on the other end can’t understand a word. The reason is pretty simple – Anker makes very affordable speakers with good technical characteristics and decent durability.
Anker Classic comes in a simple box, and besides the speaker, the packaging includes charging cord, AUX cable with 3.5mm jacks, user guide, and 18-month warranty. One of the most interesting things about this speaker is that it has upwards facing driver, which is kind of unusual.
Aluminum mesh is on the top and it protects the driver while the rest of the speaker is made of thin plastic with some kind of rubber finish. Above the buttons, there is LED Bluetooth indicator, and at the bottom of the front panel, there is a small built-in mic.
Anker Classic has only one 2 inches large driver (with an output power of 4W), and one passive bass radiator. The speaker is shaped like a cube, it’s nothing you haven’t seen before, but it’s still stylish and elegant, and it looks really visually appealing.
Pairing is simple and intuitive, you won’t have to read an explanation if you had some Bluetooth speaker before. We haven’t experienced any compatibility problems – it works fine with Apple and Android devices. Another nice additional thing is 3.5mm port, so you can also connect any non-Bluetooth device to the speaker. Thanks to this large battery, you will be able to listen to music for up to 20 hours (at 50% volume) which is much more than you could possibly expect from a mini speaker.
Don’t get this wrong, the speaker is far from being actually great, but for the size and for the price, you can’t expect more. This speaker is far from being completely rubbish, but there are some weak spots and some construction flaws that should be mentioned. Soundcore mini comes in a nice and simple packaging, and along with the speaker, you will get charging cord, user guide, and 18-month warranty.
The upper side of the speaker is shielded with an aluminum grille which protects upwards facing driver, and the rest is made of thick aluminum alloy with a matte finish with really nice grip.
On the rear panel, right at the bottom, you will see built-in mic, mode button (for shifting between Bluetooth, AUX, SD card, and FM radio), battery indicator, power switch, 3.5mm port, charging port, and SD card slot. Thanks to so many ports, you can stream the music directly from SD card, or from any non-Bluetooth device.
This is one of the smallest speakers on the market, it’s half the size of an average palm so you can take it with you wherever you go. There is one small flaw regarding durability, but we will talk about that in ‘’Things we don’t like’’ section. We haven’t experienced any compatibility issues and we used Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S8) and iPhone 8.
Inside this small speaker, there is pretty large 1,800mAh Lithium-Ion battery which offers up to 15 hours of playtime at 80% volume.
If your phone dies, or Bluetooth doesn’t work, you always have the option to insert SD card or play some radio station. Soundcore mini offers surprisingly good, well-balanced sound.
If you don’t expose it to water, then you can be assured that this little thing will serve you well for a very long time. You will get the same additional functions like with Soundcore mini, but the performance and durability will be slightly worse. EasyAcc Mini speaker comes in a simple cardboard box, and along with the speaker you will get AUX cable with 3.5mm jacks, charging cord (USB to mini USB), quick start guide, and 1-year warranty. This is another upwards facing speaker (just like Soundcore mini), but this one doesn’t have protective aluminum mesh on the top and the driver is more exposed and more vulnerable.
The speaker is enclosed with some kind of glossy metal alloy, although it feels plasticky. EasyAcc mini speaker has only one 3W active driver with a small passive radiator.
The speaker weighs 9.2 ounces which is slightly heavier than we expected, but that’s probably because of the metal casing. As we’ve already said, this speaker is very similar to Soundcore mini, it has the same cylindrical shape, the same functions, but the casing of EasyAcc mini looks kind of cheaper – it’s shiny and sleek, and we definitely like Anker’s speaker more. We haven’t experienced any connection losses or interference within the Bluetooth range. The battery is the biggest deal-breaker for this speaker, and it is on the verge of being unacceptable, but considering the price, it’s not that bad. If your phone dies, or if you are having troubles using Bluetooth, you can play the music directly from the SD card, or you can turn on the radio (in case you want to use it as a radio you have to attach the charging cord and use it as an antenna). You will have to be close to the speaker in order for the person on the other side to hear you clearly, but for the price, you can’t get much better experience.
You can’t expect strong and punchy bass or crisp clean highs. The sound is relatively well-balanced with small amount of distortion at high volume. Maybe we are mistaken after all – the casing is made of metal, but we don’t think this one will survive heavy use for more than a year (and that’s maybe ok considering the price).
Rokono pays much attention to design, and this unique speaker is perfect example of that kind of approach.
Since it is really small, you can’t expect some great performance and big sound, but you can get something slightly stronger and louder than your phone or your laptop speaker. Inside the packaging, you will find your G10 mini speaker with built-in audio cable (not detachable), audio extension cord (3.5mm jacks, male to female), charging cord, splash-proof carrying bag, user guide, and 1-year warranty. The driver is located on top of the speaker, and it’s not protected with aluminum mesh, but only with two small plastic bars (so it’s more vulnerable). At the bottom of the speaker, there is small plastic ON/OFF switch, multifunction button (you can use it to play/pause songs, increase/decrease volume, or play the previous track/skip track), and charging port.
The audio cable is not removable which is kind of a downside, but you can wrap it around the bottom so it won’t stand in your way. G10 mini speaker is very small, it can easily fit your bag or your pocket since it is smaller than a palm.
Rokono doesn’t provide info on Bluetooth version, but based on our experience, pairing is simple and it starts immediately when you turn on the speaker. The sound is far from perfect, bass is kind of shallow, and when you expand the speaker you will get small improvement.
Mids are pretty good and articulate, highs lack some authority, and there is noticeable distortion at maximum volume. There is only one control button for all the commands, so you will need some time to learn how to use it, and even then, you can easily change the song while trying to increase or decrease the volume. This tiny speaker reminds us in many ways of Anker Soundcore mini – they offer similar performance and features, and since you know that Soundcore mini is one of our favorites, it’s no surprise that we really loved Sony XB10. This is, along with previously mentioned Anker’s mini speaker one of the best choices if you are searching for something super-small.
Sony XB10 comes in a nicely designed small box, and inside this box, you will find only charging cord, user guide, and 1-year warranty (you won’t get audio cable although there is 3.5mm port on the speaker. Black aluminum mesh covers the top and protects the driver, and at the bottom, there are four ports designed to allow air to flow and provide better bass response. At the top, there is also small silicone strap which can come in handy in many situations and it is really nice detail. It is slightly larger than its direct rival Soundcore mini, but still really small and lightweight.
Sony did really good job designing this small thing, it looks really nice, it’s sporty and elegant at the same time. The speaker looks and feels sturdy and compact like it could survive all the rigors of everyday use.
Pairing starts the moment you turn on the speaker, it’s pretty simple and smooth. We haven’t experienced any compatibility issues – the speaker works fine with Android and Apple devices.
If you have non-Bluetooth device you can connect it via 3.5mm audio cable (which you have to buy separately). You can choose whether you want them to play the same source or to act as left and right speaker (stereo). Bass is strong and punchy but not overwhelming, and it doesn’t get distorted at high volume. XB10 doesn’t have backward button so you can’t play the previous song unless you use your phone.
It is one of the smallest and cheapest mini Bluetooth speakers on the market, and yet, it is very good, probably better than JBL GO which costs twice as much. Marsboy mini Bluetooth speaker comes in a small and simple box along with charging cord, user guide, and 1-year warranty. The speaker is extremely simple, the housing is made of some kind of metal alloy, and the upper side is shielded with sturdy aluminum grille which protects the drivers. Inside Marsboy mini speaker, there is one small upwards facing 4W driver and passive bass radiator. Compatibility is not an issue – you can stream music from any Android phone or iPhone.
It offers incredibly clean sound with nice balance between lows, mids, and highs.
Marsboy really offers great sound for its size, and if you are not prepared to spend more than $20, this is one of the best options. Marsboy is made only for listening to music, and if you want any additional feature, you should look elsewhere.
iFox Creations is small, family-run audio equipment company. iF012 comes in a simple plastic box (packaging is not impressive considering the premium look of the speaker, but there are some more important things than presentation). There is big suction cup at the back, so you can stick it on your bathroom wall or shower glass. iF012 looks premium and very elegant thanks to its black color with golden details and glossy finish.
It is completely waterproof and dustproof, and that’s the main reason why you can use it in the shower, but you can also take it with you to the beach or to the pool. In reality, it’s much shorter (15-20ft), but you shouldn’t be having problems if you leave your phone in front of the bathroom doors.
iF012 has not so large 650mAh battery which offers up to 6 hours of playtime at 80% volume, which is not bad for a shower speaker. The suction cup should be strong enough to hold the speaker stuck on the bathroom wall. APIE portable speaker comes in a small and simple box, and along with the speaker, you will get AUX cord with 3.5mm jacks on both ends, charging cord, user guide, and 6-month warranty (you can buy prolonged warranty and we advise you to do so, just to be safe). The front and back are covered with protective aluminum grille, which is really sturdy and inflexible. Above the rubber flap, in the upper left corner, there is metal carabiner so you can hook your speaker to your backpack or wherever you like. We’ve already mentioned reinforcements which really make this speaker rugged and capable of withstanding heavy use.
We haven’t experienced any compatibility problems, so you can easily pair it with any Android phone, iPhone, iPad, PC, or any other Bluetooth-enabled device. This speaker has pretty large rechargeable Li-Ion battery (with 2,200mAh rated capacity) which offers up to 8 hours of playtime at 75% volume.
APIE offers decent sound quality, it’s nothing extraordinary, but it’s definitely much better than a speaker on any phone. At the bottom, you will find short built-in aux cord with 3.5mm gold plated jack.
You can’t go to the previous track (nothing happens when you press the handsfree buttons three times) and that’s a small flaw. At the top of Clip 2, there is very strong orange carabiner which implies that the speaker is made for outdoor use.
It is round shaped and it’s made of high-quality materials – the moment you see it, you can tell that it costs more than other mini speakers. JBL always offers wide variety of different colors and color combinations (editions), so you can choose between black, blue, camo, gray, Malta, mosaic, red, and turquoise.
JBL Clip 2 has IPX7 rating, which means it is completely waterproof (can survive submersion up to 1m for up to 30min), and the best thing is that it floats, so if you accidentally drop it into the pool, it won’t go straight to the bottom. All in all, this little thing can survive heavy use during long periods of time without any problem.
We haven’t experienced any compatibility issues – the speaker works just fine with any Android phone or iPhone. The bass is decent, it’s not booming or overwhelming although it gets distorted at high volume.
Vocals sound very good, the mid-range is articulate, and highs lack some crispness. On the positive side, if you have an iPhone, you can see battery status in the notifications list (you can see the exact percentage).
We decided to present to you VicTsing Bluetooth shower speaker, which is the third shower speaker on this list, so you can compare it with previously mentioned iF012 and SB510 and decide which one is best for you, based on price, features, and performance. VicTsing comes in a simple cardboard packaging along with micro USB charging cord, removable suction cup and carabiner, user guide, and 1-year warranty.
The speaker is made of plastic which is completely covered with protective layer of silicone. You can attach the suction cup to the back and stick the speaker on your bathroom wall, shower glass, or a mirror.
Inside this mini shower speaker, there is one small 5W active driver and passive bass radiator. It looks more sporty than stylish because of the silicone cover, and it is obtainable in 3 colors – army green, gray, and blue.
It has IPX4 splash-proof rating, which means that you can use it in the shower, but it won’t survive submersion because it is not completely waterproof, so you will still have to be very careful. Another good thing about this speaker is that even if it falls off your bathroom wall it won’t get damaged because it’s very rugged.
The Best Portable Speakers on Amazon, According to Hyperenthusiastic Reviewers
“I wanted a more intertwined and seamed-together theater sound,” they write. After connecting the two to create a kind of surround-sound setup, the speakers make you feel as if “the singer is directly in front of you,” they explain.
